Toledo Bend, a large man made reservoir nestled on the border between Louisiana and Texas, has long been a popular destination for South Louisianians looking to fish, boat, and relax all within a few hours of home. The calm waters and natural surroundings provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, making it an ideal spot for retirees and families seeking leisure and outdoor adventure.
Though Toledo Bend has been a popular destination for South Louisianans for decades, this perfect fishing spot still comes with a catch — if you want Cajun food, you have to pack a cooler of boudin and other Cajun specialty meats before you leave.
Brannon and Kelly Mire are here to fix that with The Best Stop’s newest location in Toledo Bend.
From Humble Beginnings
Brannon and Kelly Mire are the entrepreneurial spirits behind the latest The Best Stop franchise, nestled in the heart of Many, LA near the Toledo Bend Reservoir.
Brannon’s journey began in the rural landscapes of Judice, LA, where his upbringing on a family farm instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep-seated appreciation for food. His early experiences of raising and processing livestock, coupled with the rare treat of enjoying prepared meats from The Best Stop, inspired his approach to food and business.
Kelly Mire, originally from Broussard, LA, complements this partnership with her diverse background, Louisiana heritage, and incredible work ethic. After pursuing her education and career in Upstate NY, she returned to her roots, where she worked as an administrator at a cardiovascular practice, until retiring to be a full time grandmother.
Cajun Country to Lake Life
Like many folks in South Louisiana, Brannon frequented Toledo Bend from a young age. “My first love is food and my second is fishing. I’ve always loved Toledo Bend, I’ve been going there since I was a kid. We went fishing for vacation, we didn’t go to the beach.”
While working on business in Scott, Brannon pulled into the Best Stop and saw an opportunity to combine his loves. It was a large sign in front of The Best Stop that read “Now Franchising.” He immediately called Kelly, asking if she wanted to come out of retirement for the venture. She agreed and he made a call that turned into The Best Stop – Toledo Bend.
The couple then made their move to Toledo Bend and began on the long journey of creating a new Best Stop location in a place they both hold dear. “It’s kind of like a dream come true for both of us, because I wanted to be in Toledo Bend,” says Brannon.
Supporting the Community
The Best Stop – Toledo Bend location is a welcomed addition to the Best Stop franchise family. We are thrilled for both visitors and locals to have access to our award-winning Cajun specialty meats while enjoying the luxuries of lake life.
As Brannon and Kelly open their doors to the Toledo Bend community in late June, they do so with the promise of bringing the heart of Acadiana to the shores of Toledo Bend,“We’re excited to become a regular part of the Toledo Bend experience.”
